Our Pastor

Mark Boyd and his family live in nearby Poquoson, Va. An ordained minister since 1978, Pastor Boyd studied at 4 different Bible Colleges and graduated from Moody Bible Institute. In addition, Pastor Boyd has earned degrees in Human Resources Admin., a M.A. in counseling, an Ed.S. in Supervision and Admin., a Masters of Divinity, a Doctorate of Divinity, and a Doctorate of Theology. Pastor Boyd served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves in the office of Chaplain. 

Pastor Boyd has served in the local church community for many years, teaching in Jr. boys, teen boys, young adults, and adult classes. He has also served as Director of Children's Church and Education Director. He has served in two other churches as Assistant Pastor, and he has been the Pastor of our body since the church started in 1994.

Pastor Boyd is an excellent teacher, teaching verse by verse, applying the Bible to our Christian walk and life. He is also author of three Bible reference books which are available at First Calvary Baptist Church.

Pastor Boyd uses object lessons in many sermons to provide visual support and utilizes outlines and notes in almost all teaching classes.  These notes make a great reference source. Our Classes are always designed to be very interactive and participatory. We invite you to join us for our next service.
 

Kathy Boyd

Kathy has an active role as a pastor's wife and thoroughly enjoys helping her husband minister to the wonderful congregation of First Calvary Baptist Church.  She is the president of the Ladies Prayer and Mission Circle, church secretary, church librarian, choir member, and coordinator of: Vacation Bible School, special music, church visitation, the church website, and many other functions.  Her Christian and secular education include:  completion of the Evangelism Explosion training course, Six years of Bible Study Fellowship, a 1999 Graduate of Moody Bible Institute, and a 2006 graduate of Thomas Nelson Community College with a certificate in Business Principles and an Associates of Applied Science in Accounting.  She is currently employed as a Nationwide Insurance agent. Her hobbies are: quilting, sewing, walking/exercising, reading, and helping others.

 

 

 

 

Why should you pray for your Pastor?


Here are the results of one national survey:
  1. 1500 pastors leave the ministry each month due to moral failure, spiritual burnout, or contention in their church.
  2. 80% of pastors and their spouses feel discouraged.
  3. 80% of pastors leaving Bible school or seminary will leave the ministry within 5 years.
  4. 80% of pastor's wives feel left out and unappreciated by their church.
  5. After 3 years only 50% of pastors still feel called to pastor.
  6. 80% of pastor's wives wish their husband would choose another profession.
